About 40 years ago this ball came crashing through our window. Its was on fire with fiery orange flames. The window itself was penetrated like from a bullet. The window remained intact except for a smooth hole where the ball had entered. It flew up on the chimney-piece and on its way knocked down several things. It continued down to the floor where it found its way into the fireplace.
It was bouncing violently against the walls in there and while we were standing there in chock. We thought that the fireplace was going to break. After just a short while the bouncing started so get more and more calm and the ball flies out of the fireplace, down on the floor where it now starts to travel across our floor back and forth in different directions.
It is still crackling and steaming with a strong stickily scent. We open our house front door and my father manages to get the ball out with his foot. He is stomping and rolling it on the ground. At last it extinguishes.
Now at later years it has come to my curiosity to discover what this experience, my family had 40 years ago, actually was. I've read a bunch of similar stories and also spoken with i.a. a ball lightning researcher Erik Witalis. This has made me understand it was a ball lightning we experienced. Everything fits the criteria for it being a ball lightning except one thing: THE BALL!
Due to nowadays theories it is impossible since a ball lightning is not of "solid materia".
2 geologists at Swedish national museum of science has done research on the ball, that I provided them. One of them said the ball contains a variety of rock such as gabbro and similar, also crystals of different minerals like amphiboles and pyroxenes.
The second geologist took minor samples of the balls outer layer. According to him it contains: metallic lead and the red which is soft, waxy, is organic materia. The dotty and flaky is lead chloride and litharge.
The limited ellipse-like area covering a piece of the ball is: silicon, lead, aluminium, calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium and iron.
Unlike the balls massive character this area has a nice porous, really dross texture.
It is in their opinion not a meteorite.
The ball feels very heavy. Weights about 820 gram is about 6 centimeter in diameter and is slightly magnetic.
I've also shown pictures at the ball to Prof.Anders Larsson, whom is said to be intressted in the ball lightning riddle. According to him it is a cannonball from the 16th century.
I turned to the army museum and asked them if it was likely to be a cannonball, their conclusion was that it could not be a cannonball of any kind.
It is not rock, not meteorite nor cannonball.
Was it a ball lightning we experienced?
Or are there other phenomenon with the same process?
And the ball! What is it??

Another geologist (SGU in Uppsala) has looked at the ball. He told me to come with the ball so he could cut a piece and do some X-ray, but when we came there all eqcipment was occupied !? And I did not want to leave the ball there
His guess is that there is : space debris (space junk)
Dr.Alice Gorman have told me it is not space junk.
To her it looks more like meteorite materials. The speed and the energy still left when it entered
our house could suggest atmospheric re-entery, the round shape is aerodynamic. The dimples on the
surface could be regmaglypts formed by pockets of gas. These are typical of meteorites.
The ball can be a achondrite, but the chemical composition of the surface does not sound like a
typical fusion crust especially if it contains organic she said.
Also Prof.Chandra Wickramasinghe and some other scientists says it is a possible meteorite.
Some want me to send them a piece of the ball, but is impossible for me to cut this hard ball.

För ca. 40 år sedan kom denna kula brinnande i orange, infarande genom vår fönsterruta. Den efterlämnade ett runt hål i rutan. Kulan for upp på spiselkransen där den välte ner flera saker. Sedan far den ner på golvet och därefter in i öppna spisen.
Den dunkar våldsamt mot väggarna därinne. Vi står skräckslagna och tror att hela spisen ska gå sönder. Efter en stund blir dunsarna lugnare och kulan kommer ut, ner på golvet och far kors och tvärs över golvet. Den sprakar, fräser och ryker med en stickande stark lukt. Vi öppnar ytterdörren och min far får ut kulan med foten. Han stampar och rullar den på marken. Till slut slocknar den.
Efter att ha läst ett flertal liknande historier och även talat med bl.a. klotblixforskaren Erik Witalis har jag förstått att det var en klotblixt vi var med om. Allt stämmer förutom på en punkt: KULAN!
Enligt nuvarande teorier är det en omöjlighet, en klotblixt har inte "fast materia".
2 geologer på Naturhistoriska riksmuseet har undersökt kulan. Den ene sa att kulan innehåller olika bergarter som gabbro och liknande samt kristaller av olika mineraler som amfiboler eller pyroxener.
Den andre tog små prover av ytskiktet på kulan. Enligt honom innehåller den: metalliskt bly och det röda som är mjukt, vaxartat, är organiskt material. Det prickiga och flagiga är blyklorid och blyoxid.
Det begränsade elliptiska området på ena sidan klotet innehåller: kisel, bly, aluminium, kalcium, kalium, natrium, magnesium och järn.
Till skillnad mot klotets i övrigt massiva karaktär har detta område en fin porös, rent av slaggig textur.
Det är inte en meteorit enligt dem.
Kulan är mycket tung. Väger ca. 820 gram är ca. 6 cm i diameter och är lätt magnetisk.
Har även visat bilder på klotet till Anders Larsson, som sägs vara intresserad av klotblixtgåtan. Enligt honom är kulan en kanonkula från 1500-talet.
Men enligt Armémuseet som undersökt saken, är det inte en kanonkula av något slag.
Inte sten, meteorit eller kanonkula.
Var är en klotblixt vi var med om?
Eller finns det andra fenomen med samma förlopp?
Och kulan! Vad är det???
Nu har ytterligare en geolog tittat på kulan.
Denna gång hos SGU i Uppsala.
Han kunde inte heller säga vad kulan är för något.
Hans gissning är att det kanske är rymdskrot.
